The Oil Technologists' Association of India (OTAI), (www.otai.org), founded in 1943 is a Premier organization of technologists, research chemists, managers, engineers and industrialists working for the production, processing and research of oilseeds, oils surfactants and allied products. It has membership of over 1600 from all over the world. The Association functions through five autonomous zones, viz. Central at Kanpur, Northern At New Delhi, Eastern at Kolkata, Western at Mumbai and Southern at Hyderabad. The activities of the zones and the Central Committees are coordinated by the OTAI head quarter at HBTI, Kanpur
The foremost aim of the association is to promote advancement of the Knowledge in the fields of chemistry and technology of oils, fats, surfactants and related products. It also aims to raise the status and professional competence of its members. It also endeavors all-round rational economic development of the oils and fats resources of the country and their utilization. The Association publishes a quarterly journal, the journal of the Oil Technologists' Association of India, which is of international repute, from Mumbai.
Symposia, refresher courses, lectures, factory visits are organized by individual zones for the benefit of the members and others. In addition, the Association organizes }All India Symposia~ along with its Annual Convention at its zonal head quarters by rotation. Some of the noteworthy international activities are: the Association organized a joint UNIDO-OTAI Co-operation Programme in which Oil Technologists' from developing countries participated. The first International Congress on Oilseeds and Oils was organized in the capital city of India in 1979. The next International ISF-OTAI Congress was held in 1984 again at New Delhi. The OTAI on completion of 50 years of its illustrious activities celebrated its Golden Jubilee by organizing an International Seminar and Exposition in 1995 in Mumbai. The subsequent International Seminar and exposition was held in 1998 in Lucknow and the last AOCS - OTAI International Conference and exhibition was held in 1999 at New Delhi. |
